Removed from the audio, not from the timeline

Removing a swear from audio can mean two things. Cutting it out shortens the file, which breaks sync with any video, shifts every chapter marker and timestamp after it, and leaves an audible jump in room tone. Replacing it keeps the timing and fills the gap with silence, a tone, or a sound of your own. Redactify does the second: the file you get back is the same length to the sample, and everything outside the censored words is exactly what you uploaded.

The audio is transcribed word by word first, so each swear has an exact start and end. Silence zeroes just that span. A bleep mutes the span and lays a 1 kHz tone over it, matched to the loudness of the surrounding speech so it does not jump out of a quiet interview or vanish under a loud one. A custom sound (Pro) is looped or trimmed to fit each word. Swears that fall close together are merged into one span so you do not get a stutter of short gaps.

It is built for speech: podcasts, interviews, voiceovers, lectures, voice memos. Several speakers are separated automatically and treated the same. Sung lyrics over loud music are harder to transcribe, so results on songs vary. Formats in are MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC and AAC, up to 8 hours per file, and audio costs 1 credit a minute, half the rate of video with mouth blur.

Silence, bleep or your own sound

Silence suits interviews and anything with music under it. A bleep is unmistakable. A custom sound (Pro) is whatever you upload.

Questions

Last updated

Does the file get shorter?

No. Nothing is cut out. Each swear is replaced in place, so the clean file is the same length as the original and still lines up with any video, chapters or timestamps.

Does it work on music?

It's built for speech, such as podcasts, interviews and voiceovers. Sung lyrics over loud music are harder to transcribe, so results vary.

What if the recording is noisy or the speakers have accents?

Everyday recordings transcribe well. The noisier the audio, the more likely a word is missed or a false positive appears, which is why every catch is listed for review before you download.

Which languages are supported?

English is the most accurate. Spanish, French, German and Portuguese are in beta.

Can I clean a voice memo or a lecture recording?

Yes. Any speech recording in a supported format works, up to 8 hours.

How long can my file be?

Up to 8 hours per file on every plan, so full stream VODs and long podcast episodes are fine. Credits are charged by the minute.

Is Redactify free?

You can try it free: new accounts get 30 credits, no card needed. Audio costs 1 credit a minute and video with mouth blur costs 2. Pro is $5/month for 75 credits, Premium $20/month for 350, or top up at $0.10 a credit.
